When it comes to the beauty industry there is always an ingredient de jour. Something new hits the market with a trendy new ingredient and suddenly, everything is infused with it. We’ve made it through the coconut oil wave, the charcoal detoxing, the AHA’s and botanicals but one thing that I always loved, even before it Kate Middleton gave it a name in pop culture was rosehip oil. If you aren’t already using rosehip oil I’m here to tell you that the benefits will make it your new beauty secret weapon.
Rosehip Oil benefits
Rosehip oil is harvested from the seeds of rose bushes and has a number of benefits for both your skin and hair. It has become a staple in my beauty routine for its lightweight but powerful properties. This one product that comes in a small bottle can be a total game changer!
After moving to Chicago in the middle of winter my skin was in desperate need for moisture. Figuring out my winter skincare routine wasn’t easy due to my delicate skin which is how I discovered rosehip oil. This lightweight but incredibly nourishing oil (think vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids) absorbs quickly without leaving a thick, oily feeling. Just adding a few drops of rosehip oil to your skin in the morning and at night will help keep your skin hydrated, happy, and healthy. I love it as part of my skin care routine!
Rosehip oil is rich in Vitamin A which is a known anti-ager that helps reduce age spots and wrinkles. And because it contains 80 percent fatty acids (omega 6 and omega 9) it not only improves moisture, it also helps improve collagen levels that help reduce fine lines. Rosehip oil helps restore and rejuvenate the skin from the inside out!
Evens the skin tone
Speaking of fatty acids and Vitamin A in rosehip oil, they also promote skin regeneration and are wonderful when it comes to improving skin flexibility. Rosehip oil, and products that contain it can improve skin texture. It has been used for centuries to help improve burned, damaged, or scarred skin. Rosehip oil is also great to even out the skin tone while fighting hyperpigmentation.
Filled with antioxidants rosehip oil reinforces the skin’s protective barrier. This means your skin has an extra level of protection against the pollutants we encounter every day. Pollutants like UV rays and car fumes are known to age us, so an extra layer of protection will keep your skin healthy and looking great.
Rosehip oil isn’t just for your face it is great for your hair too! We often forget that our hair is also susceptible to damage from UV rays or needs some extra moisture and vitamins like our skin so adding it into your beauty routine is a great way to show your hair some TLC. I’ve even heard of people adding a few drops to their hair before bed for an extra luxurious oil treatment that leaves your hair soft and shiny!
