The downsizing has officially commenced, you guys. And when I say that everything must go I promise that is not an exaggeration. In fact, my coworkers have even commented on how I have take over the local yard sale pages!
What Stays? What Goes?
As you guys know, Tim and I never downsized when we moved from Florida to Tennessee. We didn’t get the chance to see our apartment before we moved in, so deciding what to get rid of seemed like something we could just do later. Well, later never came. And now we are going smaller.Furniture? Check!
Originally we were going to go straight into a tiny house. And the one we were going to be moving into is fully furnished which made downsizing really easy. Everything except an antique sewing machine Tim had got me for Christmas last year was on the sale list. Which meant that a lot of things had to go. I started selling the bed frames, our guest beds, bookshelves, and other big pieces of furniture. As life would go and throw us a curve ball, we decided to hold off on the tiny house for a bit. Instead we will be living in a 1 bedroom apartment in our same complex. Luckily the main pieces of furniture that had already sold, like the guest beds or the bookshelves were things we wouldn’t have had space for in our new one bedroom any way. Even though we weren’t doing the tiny house right away we decided to still take this as an opportunity to downsize our closet. We tried to keep in mind project 333. Those jeans I hoped I would someday fit into again? Thrown in the sell pile. Clothes I hadn’t worn since we moved? Finding a new home! Downsizing really wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I think that having a fully furnished tiny house as the end goal made it a lot easier. And the excitement of finally going tiny meant that downsizing wasn’t a panic attack waiting to happen. We’ve shifted our focus from tiny house into a more minimalistic approach so that if we don’t have a need for it, to GoodWill it goes. Aside from getting rid of books, the process has been very liberating actually! What do you think about us going tiny? Have any questions? Think we are crazy?
