When you are packing for your next adventure and looking for your next vacation destination, sometimes, a bit closer to home can throw up many surprises. We’ve loved our time exploring many of the southern states so if you are heading to the Volunteer state, here are some fun things to keep in mind while you plan your trip to Tennessee.
Of course, traveling around America offers up many different surprises and options. Still, when we travel with our family or go to the more tourist-friendly destinations, we may not consider the more underrated states in the US. Tennessee is one of those places that historically has been underrated, but it’s definitely worth exploring!
Immerse Yourself in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville
If you are a country music fan and you are looking for a hefty dose of all things Country Music, Nashville is the place for you! The Country Music Hall of Fame Museum is a one-stop-shop for the history and traditions of country music. With the exhibitions constantly changing, you are guaranteed to find something that you will like.
Head to Ruby Falls
Tennessee isn’t just the home of country music; it’s got so many beautiful sights too. Ruby Falls in Chattanooga is a sight to behold. It’ll only take you a couple of hours to make your way around the falls located beneath Lookout Mountain’s surface. It is certainly a place to make you realize just how great and expansive Tennessee is.
Go Greek at the Parthenon
One of the highlights of Nashville, the Parthenon, is, you guessed it, a full-scale replica of the very same Parthenon in Athens. Built in 1897, it is the home to the Nashville Art Museum. If you are looking for your dose of culture, you can witness a permanent collection housed there by numerous 19th and 20th-century American artists.
Go up the Great Smoky Mountains
Tennessee has one of the most famous national parks. The great Smoky Mountains get a lot of visitors, but you can see just why when you get there. You don’t have to navigate tricky terrains. Hiking is one of the things that you can easily do on this trail, including the famous Appalachian Trail.
Go Around Cheekwood Botanical Garden
If you are a garden fanatic, Cheekwood is home to 11 different gardens, not to mention a woodland sculpture trail. It also houses a lot of contemporary art. It’s an estate that can take some time to explore, but if you’re looking for some plush indoor scenery, this is the place. And if you are hungry from all the exploring, the Loveless Cafe located nearby is an excellent place for a quick bite.
Go Skiing at Ober Gatlinburg
If you want to head away from Nashville, you can get in your fair share of skiing. But even if you aren’t this way inclined, there are plenty of other activities to suit. From ice skating to water raft rides, there are plenty of activities.
Of course, Tennessee is usually only thought of as the home of country music and Nashville. But there’s also plenty of fantastic trails and sites to keep any vacation interesting!
