I have always struggled with my weight. And what I often saw happening is that I would follow fitness and workout accounts on Instagram. My motivation would last a week or so before the endless weight-loss ads and unrealistic expectations for my body got to me. Every time I would buy fun workout clothes (hello, Fabletics! I love you ps: use this link and get $40 in store credit!) and promise I was going to stick with it! But as life happened and more picture-perfect girls made their way into my feed, my fire would fizzle.
I’ve repeated this pattern many, many a times. And one night, fearing the dreaded swimsuit shop for summer, I decided to look at why this kept happening. I’m not talking about the constant bombardment of thin is beautiful media, that is something somewhat out of my control. But what I’m talking about is why I would start workout plans and quit, sign up for challenges and never finish. After some deep self reflection, I realized a few things.
Workout Tips, Finding A Plan That Works For You
Here are some workout tips that have helped me stay motivated, find the right workouts, and learned to not be so hard on myself.
Explore your options.
Working out, health, and fitness are not a one size fits all situation. Explore all your options until you find something you enjoy. Look at yoga, barre, boxing, and dance cardio options to include in your workouts. There are a lot of options too to try from home through apps and workout platforms if you are worried about trying new things in a gym.
Go at your own pace.
One of the hardest things when starting a new workout is being kind to yourself. Mentally, emotionally, and physically you have to give yourself the space to learn. Remember you won’t always be the best at something when you first try it and that is okay!
Give yourself credit.
Deciding to get healthy and making a commitment to take care of yourself isn’t easy. And it definitely takes stepping out of your comfort zone. Everyone has to start somewhere so give yourself some credit for taking the first step!

Don’t be afraid change things up.
If your workouts are getting stale and you’re not feeling challenged anymore, don’t be scared to try something new! If it is not challenging you, it is not changing you so it is okay to add some new exercises into the mix.
